Magick by Type: Shamanism

SHAMANISM is a very broad and deep type of magick that spans the globe and all imaginable types of religious environments. Shamans are sometimes embedded within the dominant religious framework, or may work apart from it or even against it.

Regardless of the tradition, shamanistic techniques are similar. The shaman goes into a trance state that could be called astral projection, into the Unseen World to interact with spiritual beings there to either receive information, undergo teaching or initiations or undertake actions in the subtle realms that then are believed to affect change  in the consensual reality.

There are a number of tools in the shaman's medicine bag. Entheogenic plants such as mushrooms, peyote cactus, Ahahuasca, and alcohol are also well known "fast lanes" to shamanic experience.

Less perilous to mind and body of the shamanic practitioner are the use of rhythm, drums or rattles, in a really fast beat, to induce trance state, and the aid offered by Spirit Guides, variously interpreted to be ancestral spirits, mythical beings, faerie co-walkers, totem animal guides, or angel guardians. The use of mood-setting, set-altering incenses and oils will be well known to the Natural Magick Practitioner.

NEW MOON NEWS from Natural Magick Shop WITH DISCOUNTS!

What a lovely occasion it is when the Vernal Equinox falls on the New Moon. It is an extra-special time for fresh starts!

Before I get going on that cluttered desk, I will start up with one of the Fresh Start candles. These are infused with the same essential oil blend I use in the New Moon magick oil and New Moon candles. The only difference is in the manufacture timing. The New Moon products are made on the evening of the New Moon (tonight) and the Fresh Start is made on the Wednesday or Sunday immediately following the New Moon, to add the Planetary signatures. I thought the Fresh Start labels might be more appealing to, hmm, less witchy practitioners. Does anybody think I should add a Fresh Start oil to the magick oils for the same reason?

For Spring cleaning purposes, the lemony-fresh scent of Van Van formulations are hard to beat. This traditional blend is so useful that I incorporate it into three forms of product: Van Van oil for direct anointing, Van Van candles for providing a blessing and renewing ambiance or for candle magick workings, Van Van floor wash for getting down into the baseboards, and Van Van room spray for a blast of freshness. ALL DISCOUNTED FOR THE FIRST WEEK OF SPRING!
 
Once I clear off that desk and get everything filed, mailed and sorted, I will decide if I want to use Altar oil or Blessing oil to wipe it clean, and clear away the stale chi my procrastinations have caused. If you think about it, many of us spend so much time at our desks, that this most functional and mundane piece of furniture becomes infused with our attention and energies...an altar! If I treat my desk as an altar, everything that issues from it becomes transformed from burden to blessing! 

By the time you get this, it might be too late to incorporate Ostara oil or Ostara incense to your Equinox observation, but I'm offering the same discount, since they are just all around nice scents for Spring and also, Ostara blends would also be appropriate for any Easter celebration. I'd be happy to label them "Easter oil" or Easter incense" for you, just make a note on your order.

Magick by Intention: Personal Power and Strength

As we grow as individuals and Magicians, we seek to increase our PERSONAL STRENGTH AND POWER in order to to further the goal of achieving our Will. In the Western tradition, this development of personal Will has been seen as an inalienable, God-given right, a corollary of the belief God has given each human a unique purpose in Life. Even nontheistic philosophers in the Western tradition hold the advancement of individual liberty (life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness) and Will to be part of the cumulative advancement of culture and civilization.

The Will of the individual does nevertheless come into conflict with the Good of the People. Institutes of Law, Learning and Religion seek to harmonize the two poles for a balance. Modern spiritual practitioners (as well as ordinary public opinion) are moving towards wholistic integration which recognizes that any action that causes harm to another harms the Whole, and therefor harms the Self. True personal power then, finds its Strength in the Ecology and Ecosystem of The World.

Fire is the lead Element of Strength and Power, giving us the energy to do the Great Work. Sun is the Planetary Power that energizes the Solar Plexus, connecting Will to Destiny.

We are approaching the Sabbat of Lughnasadh (Bless the Gaelic language, I've heard it pronounced loo-NAH-sah and LUN-ah-sah, but I'm sure someone would correct me!) which is a feast day of the Celtic sun god Lugh, and a celebration of the First Harvest of grains. This past month of May has seen a lot of

change for Natural Magick Shop. The beginning was quite sad, with the passing of Daphne and Emo, my feline familiar and shop kitties. My Cat oil formulation was especially guided by Daphne; her discrimination, the smell of her fur, and her total hedonistic abandon for Catnip. Cat oil is now dedicated to Daphne, and for the whole month of June it is on special for $9 instead of $13. Just use the Special Order link to fill in this sale price. My friend Monica Knighton's new children's book The Magician's Cat was also KickStarted in part by Natural Magicians as tribute to Daphne and Emo. The really positive change is that Natural Magick Shop has a new laboratory! I get to sit in a *real chair* to make potions now! My old lab was in an attic with a door too small to get a table into, so I had to sit on the floor to work on a coffee table. The new space is much better arranged, and prior to the move I mopped the new lab and the whole house with the Van Van Floor Wash, and I can't tell you how fresh, clean and cool my new lab and house feel, and the flea-free part is nice too! Magick Candles from Natural Magick Shop

For years I had casted about on how to bring candles to the lines of Natural Magick Shop, using my magick oils. I wanted it to be natural, hand made, and ecologically sound. No paraffin wax, which is a non-renewable petroleum product. As I investigated ALL soy was is genetically modified! All of the non-GMO soy goes to organic and natural food products, none left over for non-human consumption, much less candle wax. (And, ewwg, most GMO soy going to feed beef.) Palm wax was another contender. A few (and by a few I mean a sum of two suppliers I could find out of a global industry) operations are doing sustainable production of palm oil and palm wax, but the huge lot of palm product is a rainforest devastation industry.

My investigations and process of elimination led me back to beeswax as the industry to support. The beeswax sheets are thrifty of the resource, since they incorporate a lot of air into the candle. They come in a great variety of color, which makes adding color to the magick easy. As I roll 'em up, each one gets dosed with a mil of NMS essential oil blend, and for sure, finished off with glitter which totally magnifies the magick! Oh, and 'cause they don't weigh out so much, no extra shipping charges, even for international customers.

There will be a whole Natural Magick Shop candles section soon, but for now I have the Samhain/Halloween candles stuck in with Miscellaneous Mojo. Raven Greywolf  is my Muse and inspiration for this product line. She used to make candles, or as she prefers to spell it, candels, similar to these for my old brick-and-mortar store. Now she is relocated to the more benevolent climes of the Pacific Northwest, where she continues to serve as an outstanding Tarot psychic, counselor and consultant.

Natural Magick Shop candles are ritually crafted of beeswax sheets, for a renewable-resource nature-friendly burn. They are infused with 100% natural essential oils and absolutes appropriate to the intention.

All candles are made on the correct day of the week for Planetary influences and phase of the Moon for Lunar powers. Feel free to burn just one and save the rest, or burn one each night for a three day spell, or burn all of them all at once or one after another for a prolonged working, or share with friends according to your Will.

These magick candles come three to a package, are four inches tall, and fit most standard taper holders for 3/4 - 7/8 diameter taper or household candles. But they do tend to drip (unless you fridge or freeze them, which I don't usually have the time for) so I like to burn them and all my candles on the dishes I use for candle magick, little sushi dishes work great. I also have a large black granite tile, and a beveled mirror for candle magick, where I can let these or any candles drip and puddle as they will. The glitter does very cool magickal stuff in the molten wax, it tumbles and sparkles, very transfixing/trance-inducible!
